The Clock
A large cedar clock and a hoopoe to guide pupils: they read the time and move the minute hand, and the hour hand follows by itself, just like a real clock. A third mode works out durations from concrete situations.

What pupils practice
- Tell the time to the half hour, quarter hour, 5 minutes, then the minute.
- Understand how the two hands are linked.
- Move between 12-hour and 24-hour time.
- Work out an end time or a duration.
How to play
- Choose an activity: Tell the time, Set the hands, Durations or Mix.
- To tell the time, the pupil chooses from 4 answers.
- To set the hands, they drag the red hand or use the ±5 min and ±1 h buttons.
- For durations, a timeline splits the time up to the full hour, then the whole hours, then the rest.
In the classroom
Ask pupils to predict where both hands will be before moving them. It is the best moment to deal with confusion between the long and short hands.
In 24-hour format, the sky changes with the time of day: ask pupils what they are doing at that time.
Useful settings
- Four levels of precision: half hours, quarters, 5 minutes, to the minute.
- The ring of minutes from 00 to 55 can be hidden for more confident pupils.
- The results separate swapped hands and mistakes with the hour, minutes, time of day and duration.
