What pupils practice
- Understand a situation before calculating.
- Tell apart combining, what is left, comparing and equal groups.
- Split a two-step problem into two questions.
- Write a complete answer.
How to play
- Choose the level: add or subtract, add or multiply, all three operations, large numbers or two-step problems.
- The pupil reads the problem and taps one of the three large operation buttons.
- The calculation writes itself and the pupil types the answer.
- The results separate mistakes in choosing the operation from calculation mistakes.
In the classroom
Read the problem aloud, then allow ten seconds of silent thinking before a vote. Ask one pupil to justify the choice without giving the answer.
If the class hesitates, redraw the game’s model on the board with the numbers from the problem.
